THIS MONUMENTAL SIZE, MASSIVE (17 TALL) HEAVY VASE IS ONE OR ROYAL COPENHAGEN’S FAMOUS GREEN OR CELADON CRACKLE PIECES. THIS ONE WAS MADE IN 1936, AS INDICATED BY THE DATE CODE ON THE ROYAL COPENHAGEN SEAL. THE VASE WEIGHS 10+ POUNDS. IT IS 10 IN DIAMETER AT THE TOP. IT IS HAND PAINTED WITH THE BIBLICAL SCENE YOU SEE. IT WAS PAINTED BY NICOLAI TIDEMAN, A WELL KNOWN ROYAL COPENHAGEN ARTIST. BUT, INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED THAT TIDEMAN WAS PAINTING EXISTING VASES DURING THE NAZI OCCUPATION. THAT IS WHY THIS IS DATED (MAY 5, 1943) DIFFERENTLY THAN THE DATE CODE. THIS IS AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE VASE. I WILL CONSIDER A BEST OFFER. I found this description on Worthpoint, regarding another similar vase. Note: this below is about a different vase, which was chipped and restored, but the information about the artist would be very similar. 18 inch Vase by Nicolai Tideman. Unique decorative vase dated 1943. A very large crackle ware porcelain vase from Royal Copenhagen, designed and painted over the glaze by Nicolai Tideman, dated 24 February 1943 (24.2.43). This is a “Unique” piece (“unica” in Danish), being the only example, and signed and dated by the artist. It is also HUGE! Approximately 18 inches tall (46 cm) and 11.5 inches in diameter (29 cm) at the widest point. By itself, it weighs about 17.5 pounds (8 kg). Nicolai Tideman worked for Royal Copenhagen from 1918 to 1943 so this was one of his last creations for the company. The date code incorporated into the Royal Copenhagen mark (a mark over the letter A in ROYAL) indicates that the vase itself was made in 1938, but the handwritten date and monogram (NT for Nicolai Tideman) indicate that the overglaze decoration was done in 1943. By choosing a large vase from inventory, something unique and eye-catching could be created at far lower cost than starting from scratch. In that sense, this vase reflects the historic imperatives of life under Nazi occupation.
