Antique vintage Rare Black Tang Dynasty Style Horse. Materials are earthenware and sancai glaze. Decorations (saddle, reins, flowers, ears, etc) are applied and sculpture was cast in sections and molded together. Another rare feature of this horse is that it’s ears are back while most are up or forward. I removed the paint and found this beautiful Tang Dynasty style horse sculpture/statue beneath. From the shape of the horse I knew it was a tang dynasty style but what I didn’t expect is for it to be a rare black Tang horse especially of this size. Pictures are shown before removal of black paint and after and also pictures of the opening and the inside of the sculpture. Citristrip paint remover was used to remove the paint and now there is some overspray inside the sculpture that I’m sure can be washed out but I will leave that to the new owner if they decide it necessary. Measurements: 18.5″ tall (46.99cm) x 19.5″ (49.53cm) wide from mouth to tail x 7 (17.78cm) wide. Weight: 12.4 unpackaged. Condition: Excellent condition with a few small chips on the base. All over crazing is detected. #7 & #8 pictures show the glaze with a. In natural sunlight, but not so much seen in unnatural light. You can also see that the ears have been applied and mane on top of the head is hand sculpted in picture #8.
