1850s Comtoise Morbier French Tall Case Clock. All original finish, hand painted floral theme in center of case, with painting on the base of the clock of French village scene with cathedral, and a boat on a river. Nice porcelain dial with some minor chipping and crazing. Detailed brass repoussé surround with farm scene depicting farm workers, horse, cart, etc. Very complete but needs work. The case is marked inside “Michaud frère et surs, ” a company in Morez (Jura) France that made clock cases from 1849 to 1862. The clock is 92 inches tall, 20 1/2 inches wide at base and center, and 8 3/4 inches deep. Dial marked “Monier Vergere” or similar. Hands and dial appear to be original. Movement may be modern update of correct type. Post and mechanism for chime is present, but bell itself is missing. Not working but mostly complete with weights and pendulum. There are cords and hooks for the weights. There is also a pendulum hanger coming from the movement but it doesn’t attach correctly to the pendulum. The upper cabinet that encloses the movement/dial is disassembled but in good condition, and needs to be screwed/glued together.
