Up for sale are a Large Pair of vintage Noritake Lusterware vases/urns. Both are marked “NORITAKE Hand Painted Made in Japan” in green with the famous M (Morimura Bros) logo. This mark was registered in 1918 and seems to have come into use in the early 1920’s and was used until around 1940. Given the design, glaze and themes, these urns/vases could be from the late 1920s or the 1930s. The fruit pictured may be a stylized persimmon. Two yellow fruits pictured on the back, with five fruits (four yellow one orange) pictured on the front. The famous and desirable Lusterware finish is achieved by adding a metallic oxide over a base color: when fired, the glaze looks iridescent. Noritake lusterware is often orange (sometimes called peach) with hand painted additions as on these vases. Note the exact shade of lusterware orange/yellow varies slightly between the two urns. The handles and upper and lower edges are finished with a gold wash/glaze. There are some darker areas of tint to the lusterware glaze, but this is part of the design and not a’smudge’. The vases are in excellent vintage condition. There are no chips, losses, hairline cracks, scratches or damage. NOTE: all four handle has some wear to the gold wash/glaze (see photo). Each vase has dimensions of. Vase opening diam: 3. Each vase weighs 3lbs 2oz.
