Limoges Guerin Tankard Pitcher 14.75 Tall Hand Painted Purple Plums 1900-1932
Elegant Decorative Stately 14 3/4 Tall TANKARD PITCHER from William Guerin & Co. DESCRIPTION: The artist was very talented with wonderfully realistic hanging purple plums nestled among the green leaves. There are grey ghost branches and leaves to give depth to the painting. The entire tankard is painted in a wash that gradually changes from a dark green to light green to finally yellow at the foot. There are also orange, blue, pink and purple tints in the wash. The color palette used is purple, green, brown, grey, yellow, orange & blue w/gold. ?? The sturdy handle is embossed and painted with a dark green at the top changing to lighter green to yellow. The only gold on the handle is the two knobs on the outer surface of the handle. At the bottom is a 1 band with heavy embossing in it. This embossing is painted gold as is the rim of the tankard. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. The only issue is on the pouring spout. It appears that a slip impurity worked its way out before the paint and gold were applied. Look at photo #10 for the close-up view. We find no nicks, chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the colors and no crazing. Look in the photos to see this. The lack of utensil scratches on the tankard attests to the high quality of the porcelain china. The gold paint on the embossed handle shows no wear. The bottom appears to be very slightly out-of-round which causes the tankard to ever so slightly rock on the table, but it is totally stable. This is very sturdy weighing 70.5 ounces. DIMENSIONS: The tankard has a bottom diameter of 6 3/4″, a top diameter of 3 7/8″ and a height of 14 3/4. The measurement from the handle to the opposite side is 8 1/4. HISTORY/MARKS: William Guerin, Limoges France, established his firm in 1873 and exported large quantities of chinaware primarily to the USA. After he acquired the Jean Pouyat Company and WWI caused porcelain production to be drastically curtailed, the merged companies were acquired by Bawo & Dotter in 1920. The mold is pictured on pages 139-146 w/different hand paintings. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description. The stand was used as a photo prop and is not part of this listing. See additional international policies below. This is ready to use or display with pride in your home.
